Sara Bologna

About

Sara Bologna is a designer based in Milan. She conceives projects at different scales, from objects to installation, venturing into the liminal zones of design practice, testing, and questioning its boundaries.

Her imagination is permeated with rites, symbols, graffiti in the folds of prehistory, fragments of poems and grimoires, in a research that develops both at a theoretical and planning level. On the one hand, it addresses the urgency of recovering a profoundly human dimension of material culture and life, through the rediscovery of the sacred and ritual dimensions of objects, in a process of semantic deconstruction and reconstruction based on iconographic and historical research. On the other, to the promotion and support of craftsmanship as a source of knowledge and truly sustainable development.

Projects
Atanor
Object born by the need to enhance the sourdough refreshment phase as a key moment in the preparation of the bread dough.
Partnership

Atanor was born from the collaboration between Sara Bologna and Aurora Zancanaro, two contemporary alchemists. The first one is a designer who moves between symbols and signs to give life to objects imbued with magic and narratives; the second one, began her career as a chemist but then decided to dedicate herself to the art of bread, transforming the simplest elements of the earth – water and flour – into masterpieces to eat every day. Her bakery LePolveri is a laboratory in continuous fermentation. The team of alchemists is completed by Massimo from Soffieria Remark, who has refined the borosilicate glass processing technique.

From this meeting a project was born for the care of sourdough, an element we can define as matrix of life or, better, pure alchemy.

The experience with Eleit
I immediately found myself in tune with Eleit’s philosophy, so I was enthusiastic about collaborating with Titti and Aurora to create this tribute to bread, to our mother earth, to the first food and symbol par excellence of man’s work. Atanor was born from a conjunction of intentions and a team of alchemists, a long research work and a lot of love for the beautiful and good things of life.
